Is preserved moss Fire Safe?

It is ignition-proof and excels as a fire retardant (NS-EN ISO 11925-2 tested)

Does it have any Thermal Insulation qualities?

The lichen has a low thermal conductivity, and thus a good insulator.

Does it have acoustic properties?

The tested sound absorption coefficient 0,96a @ 500Mhz (see graph to understand how good it actually is as an acoustic dampening material!). It is worth mentioning that the human ear is most sensitive to tonal differences between 1000 and 2000 Hz, and in this frequency range the moss is the most effective.

Would the moss allow insects to nest in it?

Due to the process of the preservation of the moss, it repels insects.

Does the moss assist in smell and air purification in a room?

JEM (Japan Electrical Manufacturers Association) has tested the moss and found that over 60% of Ammonia, Acetaldehyde and Acetic Acid from tobacco smoke were removed 5 minutes into the test. The final evaluation of the test indicated that 88% removal rate within 30min

Does it need any sunlight or moisture?

No, absolute no maintenance and preferably no direct sunlight. Ideal solution for vertical green walls – no expensive plumbing, no risk of damp and leaks, no increase in the insurance or requirement for approval.

Is the moss alive ?

No, the moss has been stabilised using salts and other natural additives, which makes it fire-resistant, durable and maintenance free.

Is the moss suitable for outdoor use?

We do not recommend to use it outdoors and it should also not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain.

Does the moss have a scent?

The moss has a subtle, natural scent which decreases over time.
